A few years ago, Marco Specialty Steel fabricated 18 custom crossover platforms for a pipeline company in La Porte, Texas. The platforms were built to provide elevated access across pipeline infrastructure while combining structural support, a durable walking surface, integrated ladder access, and safety railings.
Each crossover platform was fabricated from structural steel, bar grating, and tread grip ladder rungs. After welding and assembly, the completed units received a heavy-duty PVC coating in safety yellow for added protection and visibility.

Crossover Project Requirements
The pipeline company required 18 crossover platforms to provide personnel with a designated route over pipeline infrastructure.
Each platform needed to include a strong structural foundation, an elevated walking surface, ladder access, and safety railings within one complete fabricated assembly. The finished units also required a highly visible protective coating suitable for an industrial environment.
Fabrication and Assembly
Marco Specialty Steel used structural steel to fabricate the foundations, support framing, and safety railings for the crossover platforms.
Bar grating was installed as the walking surface, creating a durable open platform for personnel crossing over the pipelines. Tread grip ladder rungs were incorporated into the access points to provide traction while climbing onto and off the platforms.
The structural framing, railings, bar grating surfaces, and ladder components were fitted, welded, and assembled into complete crossover platforms. Fabricating the units as finished structures helped maintain consistency across all 18 platforms while reducing the amount of assembly required at the project site.
Heavy-Duty PVC Coating
After fabrication, each crossover platform received a heavy-duty PVC coating in safety yellow.
The coating added a protective layer over the fabricated steel components while increasing the visibility of the platforms around the pipeline infrastructure. Applying the same finish across the framing, railings, and access components also created a uniform appearance throughout the order.
